Amazing, you´re still blogging and I´m still reading even though twe´re all dead inside a black hole now! The universe is truly amazing. I never did grasp physics very well.

When they do find the Higgs Boson they will realise that it too must be made of something even smaller, and plans will be laid to lay an electromagnetic girdle round the earth, "The Puck Project" will begin .

Big fleas have little fleas upon their backs to bite them, and little fleas have lesser fleas, and so ad infinitum.

The constant inclusion of the "and this might destroy the world" storyline is definitely annoying. Of course, it is a godsend to journalists looking for an easy way to produce an interesting-seeming article.

I recently managed to get into a debate of my own with one of the LHC=Doom sorts.

Another person I read said jokingly that she liked a risk assessment which seriously considers whether they will destroy the world. Hope you don't mind me linking to the report...

In fact, they even address the claim that they may destroy the Universe.

Terence McKenna, for all his faults, talked wonderfully about science and the Big Bang theory in his talk - Eros and Eschaton. You can download the MP3 (it's freely available on many websites) here...

http://www.chrislight.net/misc.html#terence (Again, I hope you don't mind the link (it's my website)).

I'm quite doubtful about many of his views, but I love him for them. The Big Bang analysis comes in at around 50 minutes (you get your money's worth) but IMHO it's worth listening to the whole thing.

    Respectfully,

I'd just like to have Steven Hawking (and any other scientist, but particularly him) say "Oh don't be so fucking stupid" when asked idiot questions about the potential for the world ending etc. etc.

Now *that* would be a press conference worth watching.

    "Will the world end?"
    "Don't be so fucking stupid"
    "What about black holes"
    "Don't be so fucking stupid"
    "Um. Um. Um."

    Perfection.

Oh, and The Register had a great piece about why the world wasn't going to end. Just don't read it while drinking anything.

Coffee hurts when expelled nasally. Who knew?

I see that there is a Large Hadron Collider for ale on EBAY:

Excellent links everyone! Funny and informative. The media seems to have forgotten all about it this week. I was naïvely hoping that we might get a bit more science coverage because of it, but it seems that's not to be.

What you need is a LAC (Large Avian Collider) and apply for funding for research into birds flying into wind turbines..............................

This video provides a very accessible explanation of how the LHC works.
