It had not occured to me use the referers information as a way to find interesting websites and bloggers. I’ll be sure to pay closer attention to this. I use WordPress (self-hosted since 2003) and JetPack. I found it interesting that the majority of my traffic comes from via WordPress Reader, which has a Discover.

Discover is a destination site showcasing notable content published with WordPress, including editors’ picks, recommended sites, and resources.

Khürt L. I imagine that would make it far easier to do everything in frames and switch between (and organise) frames using the window manager. At the moment I'm sticking mostly with windows, but I do sometimes open a new frame if I want to make a quick edit in a 'temporary' project.

I'm not using Gmail or any of Google projects, so I've just set up mu4e for IMAP (I'm using Fastmail). I haven't done anything very sophisticated, but it works OK. I want to tweak a couple more things, then I'll probably write a post about it.

Re: BSAG » Getting comfy with Emacs

Great! It's even simpler if you use ox-pandoc as you can then use the org dispatch menu (or whatever it's called), and set a few default values that you use frequently.

Re: BSAG » Getting comfy with Emacs

Thank you, it does help! I hadn't realised converting orgmode to MS Word is as simple as "pandoc -i myfile.org -o myfile.docx". Excellent.

Re: BSAG » Getting comfy with Emacs

Sorry for the late response - I was travelling to visit family over Christmas. I tend to use Pandoc to convert org-mode documents to Word. That's partly because I used Pandoc (from Markdown to lots of other formats) before I ever used Org, but I also think that it gives you a bit more flexibility and power than the built in options for Word. I use ox-pandoc for that, but there's also pandoc-mode if you prefer another approach (I haven't tried it myself). ox-pandoc enables you to set quite a few pandoc options via Org options in the header.

I tend to use Pandoc to convert from org to Word, HTML and PDF, and use Org's built in converter to convert from org to Beamer (it's easier to handle columns and things like that) and TeX, though I need to do that rarely. I suspect that's personal preference though, as I'm more familiar with the Pandoc way of doing things, and I already have preferred templates and so on for Word, HTML and PDF.

Hope that helps!

Re: BSAG » Getting comfy with Emacs

Somewhat related question: what do you (or anybody) use to convert from orgmode to Word documents? I think (hope!) you'll love it. The symbols layer is indeed great, but remember that you can configure every single key or create whole new layers if you want, so you can tweak it just the way you want it.

I really like the 'space cadet' feature which I explained above. That means you don't even need to go to the symbols layer to easily insert parentheses, which is extremely useful in writing prose.

Re: BSAG » ErgoDox EZ keyboard

I made the jump and ordered one!

Since I've remapped caps lock to escape (vim you know :) I already have trouble using anyone else's computer without typing half the letters in uppercase.

After perusing I found what looks like an interesting layer for all the brackets and symbols we use in code and I'm looking forward to see how it works out but I can imagine how difficult it is to go to a keyboard without that!

Re: BSAG » ErgoDox EZ keyboard

The customisation really is mind-blowing. I think it can probably be made to be perfect for any editor. Certainly for Emacs you can put the modifier keys near your strongest fingers/thumbs so you don't end up with Emacs pinky! The only downside to all the customisation possibilities is that once you are used to them and go back to a standard keyboard, you can't type for toffee! It's funny how quickly your motor system adapts.

Re: BSAG » ErgoDox EZ keyboard

My thoughts were similar, it is an expensive purchase so it has to feel right.

I've been looking at the keyboard.io and some kinesis ones for a while and this post made spend the afternoon looking at videos about mechanical keyboards and switches and whatnot (I've listened to many switches sound tests too now :).

This ergodox looks very interesting, the customization seems awesome, I mean it seems perfect for vim.

Thanks for this writeup!

Re: BSAG » ErgoDox EZ keyboard

I did indeed look at keyboard.io. Repeatedly :-). I think it looks gorgeous, seems very high quality, and it has lots of the things I like: ability to tent, thumb clusters of keys, etc. However, in the end, I felt that the Ergodox was a little bit more customisable (replaceable keyswitches, standard keycaps, so it's easy to switch them around or replace them), and that made me more comfortable about spending money on it.

The book looks really interesting, I'll check it out - thanks for pointing it out!

Re: BSAG » ErgoDox EZ keyboard

Did you look at the keyboard.io by any chance and if so what did you think?

On a related note you might find this book (WIP) interesting, it's about the history of keyboards: https://www.getrevue.co/pro...

Re: BSAG » ErgoDox EZ keyboard

Thanks! I've heard good things about the Microsoft ergonomic keyboard, but I do love a mechanical ;-). Just this week Ergodox announced that they have a 'Glow' model with properly backlit keys for pre-order. Now I'm thinking that I could really do with another unit so that I don't have to transport it, and I could really use the backlit keys at home where I use it more in the evening...
